Sweet Plantains (ripe)
Peel a yellow plantain just like a banana. Cut it into 1/2 inch slices. Heat a pan with olive oil to medium heat. Cook until sticky. (about 5 minutes.) Yellow plantains are great in desserts or on ice cream. They have a sweet, creamy taste.
Savory Plantains (unripe)
Peel a green plantain by cutting off about an inch on both ends. Make a ong cut all the way through it but just deep enough to go through the peel. Stick your thumbs into the crack and peel the peel off. Cut it into about 1/4 inch slices. Heat a pan to medium-low heat with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and onion powder. Cook for about 5 minutes until they brown and get slightly crispy. These have a startchy taste, kind of like potatoes and are a great healthier alternitave to potato chips and fries. They are also great in Mexican cooking.
